how to keep your voice clear & healthy for singing?

By Spardha Learnings |

We know how much your voice means to you. During changing seasons or winters, it gets really difficult to keep your voice clear for your singing lessons. And isn’t it annoying to reschedule your music classes due to a cold/cough?

We understand that your voice is a big part of who you are. That's why taking care of it is super important.

In this article, we have compiled a list of awesome drinks shared by our expert singers that can help keep your voice clear and ready to wow everyone.

1. Drinks to Keep your Voice Healthy

Check out these amazing drinks and beverages that will soothe your throat, no matter the season.

a. Water

First up, the simplest yet most effective: water. Think of it as a superhero for your throat. Drinking plenty of water is key, especially at room temperature. It keeps your throat hydrated and happy, which means better singing for you!

Did you know that your vocal cords are one of the last areas of the body to get dehydrated?

A singer should never let their throat get dry. In fact, take a sip of warm water before your online music class and let your voice create magic.

b. Honey in Warm Water

Next, let's talk about honey in warm water. This combo is like a gentle hug for your throat. It's perfect before you start your singing session. The warmth and sweetness soothe your throat and get it ready for some amazing vocal lessons.

Did you know that honey can also relieve any sustained irritation in the throat and support the health of surrounding tissues?

Try this amazing beverage before your next singing class and see the benefits for yourself.

c. Turmeric and Pepper

Here's a powerhouse duo: turmeric and a pinch of pepper in milk. We call it Mom’s Favourite. Because most of us have grown up drinking haldi wala doodh or as we know it in pop culture: golden milk latte.

Because mom always thinks of what’s best for you and then gives you haldi doodh, you’ve got to try this mix and let it calm your throat, especially when it feels overworked.

d. Ginger Tea

We can't forget about ginger tea. It's an all-time favorite for a reason. Ginger helps when your throat feels scratchy or tired. Making ginger tea at home is easy and super beneficial. Definitely a must-try!

Here’s how you can make it:

1. Add 1 tablespoon of freshly grated ginger in a cup of water.

2. Let it simmer for 5 - 10 minutes.

3. Strain it in a cup, add some honey for sweetness.

Voila, your healthy ginger tea is ready. Do try and your throat will feel so relaxed, you’ll thank us.

e. Cinnamon and Mint

Okay, here’s a personal favourite: cinnamon. Add cinnamon to anything, and it instantly becomes tastier. Add it to warm water and now, the water's tasty and healthy.

To top that, add some mint leaves too. This drink is incredibly tasty and is also great for your voice.

It will help you relax and keep your throat strong. Perfect for the long vocal practice.

2. Drinks to Avoid

A quick heads-up: some drinks can damage your vocal cords and throat when consumed in excess.

For example, caffeine and alcohol can dry out your throat and irritate it. Dairy products and citric juices can cause the tissues to secrete more mucus.

These drinks can irritate your throat, and that's the last thing we want. So, consume these in moderation.
